Keum Boo Basics

Add pure gold to a simple pair of sterling silver earrings, without all the extra expense! Keum Boo is an ancient Korean art also used by the Japanese, Chinese, ancient Romans, and Greeks. The technique uses a hot plate and burnishers to permanently bond designs made from very thin gold sheet to sterling or fine silver. Techniques covered include depletion of sterling to bring fine silver to the surface, cutting out very thin design elements with x-acto knives, and applying your design using agate burnishers. No previous experience necessary. All tools and materials provided by artist/instructor Maggie Mehaffey. $25 materials fee payable in class.
